Confidence in the Gutter? Here are 10 Strategies to Get you feeling back on top!

I make an amazing cheerleader. I really do. I am happy being in your corner, watching you achieve all your goals and reach your milestones…. Supporting you on your life journey. That is where I am happiest. But for myself? Not so much. It’s not my skills that I doubt. I have studied hard and worked hard to get where I am. It’s deeper than that. …. So, like many of my clients, that is what I work on every day. With patience, intention and practice.

Here are a few examples of strategies that I use that can help boost your confidence:

  1. Practice Self-Compassion: Treat yourself with kindness and understanding. Acknowledge that everyone makes mistakes and experiences setbacks. Practice self-compassion by offering yourself words of encouragement and forgiveness instead of self-criticism.
  2. Set and Achieve Small Goals: Start with small, attainable goals that align with your interests and values. Each accomplishment, no matter how small, will contribute to a sense of achievement and build your confidence gradually.
  3. Celebrate Your Strengths and Accomplishments: Take time to reflect on your strengths, skills, and past successes. Write them down and remind yourself of your abilities and achievements regularly. Celebrate your progress and acknowledge your accomplishments, no matter how small they may seem.
  4. Step Outside Your Comfort Zone: Challenge yourself by trying new things and facing your fears. Pushing the boundaries of your comfort zone allows you to develop new skills and expand your confidence. Start with small steps and gradually increase the level of challenge.
  5. Practice Positive Self-Talk: Pay attention to your inner dialogue and replace negative self-talk with positive and empowering statements. Encourage and affirm yourself regularly. For example, replace “I can’t do this” with “I am capable, and I will give it my best shot.”
  6. Surround Yourself with Supportive People: Spend time with individuals who uplift and encourage you. Surrounding yourself with positive and supportive people can have a significant impact on your confidence levels. Seek out mentors or join groups where you can connect with like-minded individuals.
  7. Take Care of Your Physical Health: Engage in regular physical activity, eat nutritious foods, and prioritize sleep. Taking care of your physical well-being can positively influence your mental state and overall confidence.
  8. Learn from Failure and Embrace Growth Mindset: See failures and setbacks as opportunities for growth and learning rather than as reflections of your self-worth. Adopt a growth mindset, understanding that skills and abilities can be developed through effort and perseverance.
  9. Practice Visualization and Positive Affirmations: Visualize yourself succeeding in situations that challenge your confidence. Imagine yourself confidently overcoming obstacles and achieving your goals. Use positive affirmations related to confidence to reinforce a positive self-image.
  10. Seek Professional Help if Needed: If your lack of confidence significantly impacts your daily life and well-being, consider seeking support from a therapist or coach who can provide guidance and help you develop strategies tailored to your specific needs.

Remember, building confidence is a gradual process that requires patience and practice. Be kind to yourself and celebrate every step forward, no matter how small it may seem.
